Vince Bryan
Self Defense & Mixed Martial Arts
Vince Bryan is highly trained in Muay Thai and Jiu-Jitsu and works with the residents at Newport Academy facilitating Self Defense and Mixed Martial Arts groups. Vince believes that Martial Arts are an effective way to help reduce stress and anxiety. He adds, "I would train the residents of Newport Academy in non-contact drills, emphasizing cognitive and physical awareness. The tools I have learned from these disciplines have been a positive outlet in my own recovery. I believe this has been integral in my journey and I look forward to working with the residents at Newport Academy.
In 1987 Vince attended BYU on a basketball scholarship at which time he was introduced to Martial Arts. He found that Martial Arts taught self-disciple and emotional stability. His interest continued through the years when he had the honor of working with, and learning from, Todd Christianson, the All Pro, Hall of Fame Tight End, for the Oakland Raiders. In 1995, Vince trained and worked with Mac Newton, the Tae Kwon Do National Champion who taught Vince an emphasis on the development of personal character traits such as courtesy, integrity, perseverance, and self-control. Vince states, "I found that I gravitated toward the growing feeling of personal power that's inherent and affects all areas of our lives, especially social interactions."
In 2002-2006, Vince trained and sparred with former Olympic silver medalist Dan Henderson. Currently, Vince trains with Todd Medina who has helped Vince refine his skills in the technical aspects of Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai.
