She started riding at the age of 5 and by the time she was 16 she was an accomplish equestrienne and skilled in reading the moods and behavior of horses. Katie’s own struggle with substance abuse led her to give up her passion for horses for almost 10 years. Since getting sober 3 years ago her passion has returned, now Katie can see the important role horses can play in helping young women build self esteem and assertive behavior. Originally from Atlanta, Katie is one of 4 children and understands the role family dynamics play into gaining lasting sobriety. Her family has always been very supportive in her endeavors and was instrumental in her recovery. Katie hopes that by working at Newport Academy she can help young women to gain a better since of self and purpose.
